The Journey Behind "Dancing in the Sky"
Every artwork I create begins with a story. This one started with Jackie Milne, a dear friend and one of my earliest supporters. Years ago, she and her husband Craig commissioned a piece inspired by my eucalyptus collection. It still hangs in their hallway today.
That first artwork became a bit of a quiet icon. Jackie’s photos of it sparked so many questions over the years, but it was always a one-of-a-kind. So when the chance came to create a second piece for their bedroom that we could share with you, it felt completely right. Jackie and I swapped colours and ideas, and I began painting. The first version didn’t quite land. So I started again.
The final artwork was bold, deep, and joyful. A perfect match for their home and hearts. I named it Dancing in the Sky to honour a lost family member. A special way to keep him close to their hearts for years to come.
And now, that same artwork lives on as wallpaper in Ben and Emma’s kids’ room on The Block. From one home to another. New stories, new memories. I'm so grateful to Jackie and Craig, and to Ben and Emma, The Block's Dan & Dani & Grafico for letting this piece carry so much meaning forward.
If Dancing in the Sky has found a place in your heart, you can bring it home as a limited edition print. Additionally, for the whole month of August, 10% of all prints sold will be donated to Billie’s Besties in honour of the families and little ones cared for in the Women's NICU.
